home

Someone was trying to explain home to me last night, home as an emotion not as a house, a town, or any geographical place. The conversation lead me to attempt my own definition of home. Home is where ever you feel attached, a sense of belonging. HOme could b e Elmo's garbage can if that is where HE feels this tie of belonging. I honestly believe some people go throughout their entire lives and never find that home. Can a home be in the heart of another? I am not sure, although, I am sure we romantics would love it to be. Can anyone ever belong to another to that extent? Belonging, maybe this is the basis for all philosophical searching.
Is home a uniquely human urge? Or do the tales of animals traveling great distances to get home become a part of the discussion?
Ideas anyone? What is your definition of home?

  1. I think home is whatever makes you feel at peace when you're surrounded by it. SO it can be a place, a person, a destination.
